WATCH: Billie Eilish debuts new song, ‘TV,’ in Manchester

MANCHESTER, England – Billie Eilish is currently touring through the UK, and during tonight’s set at the AO Arena in Manchester, she debuted a brand-new song called “TV.” In a stripped-down performance, Eilish sat next to brother and producer Finneas (on acoustic guitar) to share the melancholy new track.

“We haven’t played a new song live before it’s out since 2017 or 2018,” Eilish said before launching into “TV.” “This is one we just wrote, and we just wanted to play for you.” This was Eilish’s first UK performance since she performed at Reading in 2019.

Later in the month, she’ll be back for Overheated, a multi-day climate event taking place at the O2 Arena in London on June 10-12 and 25-26.

Watch some fan-shot footage of Eilish and Finneas performing “TV” below.

WATCH:  xx’s Oliver Sim shares new single ‘Hideous’ about living with HIV

The xx’s Oliver Sim has announced his debut solo album, Hideous Bastard, which will be out September 9 via Young.

The album includes previous singles “Fruit” and “Romance with a Memory,” and has just shared a third single, the lush, string-laden “Hideous,” which was produced by his xx bandmate, Jamie xx, and features Bronski Beat and Communards cofounder Jimmy Somerville. He’s also shared its striking video, by director Yann Gonzalez, that just premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.

In a statement about the album and single, Sim revealed that he’s been HIV positive since he was 17. “Two thirds in, having a good idea of what the record was about, I realized I’d been circling around one of the things that has probably caused me the most fear and shame: my HIV status,” Sim writes.

“I’ve been living with HIV since I was 17 and it’s played with how I’ve felt towards myself, and how I’ve assumed others have felt towards me, from that age and into my adult life.”

NEWS: U2’s Bono & The Edge perform in Kyiv bomb shelter

SPIN – On Sunday, Bono and the Edge played a short set in a Kyiv bomb shelter that was once a subway station, showing support for Ukraine. In a tweet post from U2‘s official account, the duo said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy invited them to perform there.

In their short set, The Irish Times reports that the duo performed “With or Without You,” “Desire,” “Angel of Harlem,” “Vertigo” and a rendition of Ben E. King’s “Stand By Me.” The U2 bandmates performed the cover with a Ukrainian soldier and changed the “me” in “Stand By Me” with “Ukraine.” Throughout the set, Bono and The Edge were joined by local musicians, including Topolia who is serving in the country’s military.

“The people in Ukraine are not just fighting for your own freedom, you are fighting for all of us who love freedom,” Bono told the crowd. He also said that Ukranians’ fight was resonating across the globe and that there was nowhere he’d rather be than in the country’s capital city.

Last month, U2 participated in Global Citizen’s Stand Up for Ukraine live stream. During that, the band performed “Walk On” from 2000’s All That You Can’t Leave Behind. Previously, Bono wrote a poem expressing his support of Ukraine.

VIDEO: Father John Misty drops new music video for ‘Kiss Me (I Loved You)’

Father John Misty has shared a new music video for the beautiful track “Kiss Me (I Loved You)” from his widely-praised new album, Chloë And The Next 20th Century.

Director David Raboy presents a sharp, cinematic view of the popular new song. Raboy picked actors Annie Hamilton and Alexander Zuccaro play the roles of the two main characters

Earlier this month, Misty performed a number of tracks from the new album live in London, including “Kiss Me”, “(Everything But) Her Love”, “Only A Fool,” “Buddy’s Rendezvous” and “The Next 20th Century” and others from the much-talked-about, and stunning, new album.

He also announced a world tour this fall and into 2023 with North America and Europe in prominence.

The deluxe edition of Chloë includes a 7″ of Lana Del Rey and David Lynch (credited as Jack Cruz) covering songs from the album.

VIDEO: Interpol shares new single video, ‘Something Changed’

NEW YORK CITY – Post-punk revival masters Interpol are not letting the newest post-punk revival pass them by.

In fact, the band has just released the second new song, “Something Changed.” The semi-creepy track – that later breaks into a driving chorus – and video follow as the second-part of and follow-up to Part One, which features the song “Toni” as well as musi-drama video scenes.

Both singles are, of course, from Interpol’s new upcoming album, The Other Side Of Make-Believe, the band’s seventh album.

Directed by Van Alpert, the film tells a story of star-crossed lovers; now we’ll all have to wait for the ending, which Paul Banks teases will be the next episode of the trilogy.

“The lives of the three are intertwined in a nebula of fear, retribution, desire, and defiance,” Banks said. “Who will receive their just deserts? Stay tuned and find out”.

In “Something Changed,” reality and reverie converge as the two lead characters fall into a dream state while being pursued by a mysterious figure – played by Banks.

Kurt Vile drops pensive new video for ‘Mount Airy Hill (Way Gone)’

PHILADELPHIA, Penn. – Indie rock artist Kurt Vile has been teasing his upcoming new album – (watch my moves) – with a couple of single drops lately.

His latest is the pensive, flashback track, “Mount Air Hill (Way Gone),” where we see Vile deliver a reminising vocal croon together with light guitars mixed to a laid-back groove.

The just-dropped revealing new video depicts a wandering Vile coming to terms with himself and his past as he skateboards through Mount Airy Hill‘s streets and experiences hallucinations in the woods. His childhood hometown is a suburb of Philadelphia.

The video and single follow the release of “Like A Child” earlier this month and “Like Exploding Stones” in February, coinciding with the announcement of the album.

It’s hard to believe that the otherwise prolific multi-instrumentalist, singer and producer last released new material in 2018 with the album Bottle In.
The new album, his ninth, is set for release on April 15 via Verve Records – his first release with the label.

In a statement regarding the DIY-produced album – recorded in Vile’s home studio known as OKV Central – Vile writes: “When Waylon Jennings became an outlaw country artist, he liked to record at Hillbilly Central, which was Tompall Glaser’s studio. OKV Central is my version of that in Mount Airy.

“I’ve come into my own here, and at the same time I’m getting back to my home-recording roots.”

Vile and his band will kick-off a multiple-city tour across the U.K. and Ireland beginning August 26 at London’s All Points East festival.

Best New Music Videos, vol. iv – Wet Leg, PUP, Sadurn, Magdalena Bay, Denzel Curry

The post-pandemic creative bubble continues to burst and expand outwards (think big bang theory) as a sleuth of excellent new video singles flows non-stop into its own tributary, along with the best 2022 indie albums; audio singles, and special compilations.

In This Installment:

Wet Leg – Isle of Wright, England – “Angelica”
PUP – Toronto, Ontario – “Matilda”
Sadurn – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – “Golden Arm”
Magdalena Bay – Miami, Florida – “Dreamcatching”
Denzel Curry Ft. Slowthai – Miami, Florida – “Zatoichi”

Wet Leg – “Angelica” 5

It’s hard not to like Wet Leg. There is something about their dedication to indie rock and to not taking themselves too seriously which has caught on in the ‘wider-realm’ (if you will). This recent video for “Angelica” has racked up more than a half million views on this official YouTube version alone in just two weeks. And that’s because it’s dope. The band’s self-titled album is set to drop April 8th on Domino Records.

Last month Philadelphia indie rock band Sadurn announced their debut album, Radiator, set to drop in May via Run For Cover.

The new band, led by Genevieve DeGroot, shared a lead single, “Snake,” followed up with this chill wavy track, “Golden Arm.”

DeGroot says about the song and the accompanying video:

“I wrote this song at the same time as ‘snake’ while doing a work exchange on a homestead in North Carolina. It kind of all came out at once, which feels like this lucky occasion when you’re writing songs. I didn’t think much of it in its initial form, it felt like more of a poem than a story.”

“But playing it with the band for the first time, and then later adding the synth and the slide guitar and coming up with the harmonies when we made the recordings, all those layers really brought it into a different special realm. The video came about very serendipitously when Amelia and I were on a road trip back in the Fall with another friend. We found this amazing camping spot and decided to shoot a video on Amelia’s camcorder – the landscape there really felt like it fit with the song.

Radiator drops May 6th via Run For Cover.

PUP – “Matilda” 4

Indie veterans PUP have unveiled a new music flick for the track “Matilda” off of The Unravelling of PupTheBand.

Jeff Cubbison puts it best; calling the video “crafted in a more old school vein, tracing the touching journey of a cool-ass guitar through multiple owners. It’s a heart-on-your-sleeve story from a kick-ass, heart-on-your-sleeve kinda band. The director credit goes to Jefferson Dutton.

Magdalena Bay – “Dreamcatching”

The DIY video gods aren’t so DIY anymore which will allow Magdalena Bay to increase their artistic approach like on the latest video clip, “Dreamcatching,” “a spectacular, eye-popping animated odyssey that needs to be seen to be believed. If there’s any justice, then this should have the VMA for Video of the Year in the bag,” writes Impose.

Denzel Curry Ft. Slowthai – “Zatoichi”

Denzel Curry has dropped yet another music video single from the upcoming album Melt My Eyes See Your Future . The previously-dropped “Walkin” was a grandiose experiment in the sub-sub-genre space western style, while “Zatoichi” stands as “an ode to old-school samurai flicks.”

“The kaleidoscopic, psychedelic unraveling during Slowthai’s amen break-filled verse is the stuff of cinematic magic,” writes Jeff Cubbison for Impose magazine.

Best New Indie Videos of 2022, V.iii – Peter Doherty & Frederic Lo, Kae Tempest, Jeremy Ivey, Artsick, The Faim

Peter Doherty & Frederic Lo – “You Can’t Keep It From Me Forever”
Kae Tempest – “More Pressure” w/Kevin Abstract
Jeremy Ivey – “Orphan Child”
Artsick – “Despise”
The Faim – “The Hills”

A graying Peter Doherty re-emerges to the release calendar with francophone arrangements and deft lyrics thanks to Frederic Lo, a Paris-based composer and producer best known for his work with Daniel Darc, Pony Pony Run Run, Stephan Eicher among others.

The new music video/single, “You Can’t Keep It From Me Forever”, is something different, yet familiar, for Doherty.

The Fantasy Life of Poetry & Crime was recorded at Studio Water Music in Paris and Cateuil in Étretat (Normandy). Mixing was provided by François Delabrière at Studio Moderne in Paris.

In addition to composer and producer, Lo also wears singer/songwriter, musician and musical director to his roster. He is best known for his work with Daniel Darc, Pony Pony Run Run, Stephan Eicher, among others.

Doherty released three albums with The Libertines between 2002 and 2015; three albums with Babyshambles from 2005 through 2013 and more recently two solor albums, Hamburg Demonstrations (2017) and Peter Doherty & The Puta Madres (2019).

On her new single, “More Pressure”, Kae Tempest gets help from executive producer Rick Rubin and longtime collaborator Dan Carey

Fontaines DC’s Grian Chatten, Brockhampton’s Kevin Abstract, Confucius MC, and Lianne La Havas.

Her new album, The Line is a Curve, drops on April 8th.

His music eminds us of The Kinks and Kurt Vile, which was even surprising to us.

U.K. musician Jeremy Ivey dropped this new video for the song “Orphan Child,” a track that combines the best of classic and indie rock.

His new album, Invisible Pictures, will drop on March 11th via ANTI-Records.

The new Bay Area hardcore trio, Artsick, was formed from underground bands like Lunchbox, Burnt Palms, and Kids On a Crime Spree.

The interpid members show-off their breadth of music influences – that marriy nicely with the trio’s penchant for fusing jangle pop and sounds of bands like The Velvet Underground and Beat Happening.

Primal drums with reverb-heavy guitars and comforting melodies that harken back to more innocent times.

Artsick’s debut album, Fingers Crossed, dropped January 21st via Slumberland Records.

The new music video for the song “The Hills” follows Australian pop-rock band The Faim‘s popular single last November, “Ease My Mind”.

“The Hills’ is a song which touches on anxiety and the desire to go back to that place where you can reconnect with yourself and take a breath,” says guitarist/songwriter Sam Tye.

“For Josh [Raven] and I, the Perth Hills is one of these places and after two years of being on the road, coming home gave us a moment to reflect on the sometimes-overwhelming experiences you have whilst touring. I hope this song helps people find that place for themselves.”

“The Hills’ music video involves a stylistic representation of life inside the band,” continues Tye, who created the concept for the video.

“The driving connects to life on the road and experiencing the world through a moving window as they travel to their next destination.”

The band’s debut album, State of Mind, spawned underground/streaming hits like “Summer Is A Curse” and “Humans.” The band is now one of the hottest new indie pop/rock bands Down Under and making in-roads to the U.S. and Europe.

Top 2022 Indie Music Videos, v.ii – Beach House, PUP, MJ Lenderman, Baby Strange, Hater

New indie rock music videos are dropping left and right in past weeks, so we’re doing our best to keep up with reviewing and posting the best indie music videos of 2022 – one volume of 5 each at a time. Please share, like or follow to tell us you dig this series so we are inspired.

Just for clarification: ‘best indie music videos’ refers more to our feeling about the song itself and not the video by itself. The use of ‘video’, and the YouTube embed, helps separate posts with just audio, and those with audio AND video.

In this case, brothers and sisters, the video can be animation, lyric, or a real ‘real’ music video (if that makes sense?).

We do not post YouTube video singles that include mash-ups of stock footage and public domain media.

(YouTube/Google has a pretty strong hold on the music videos marketplace. The only viable competition – Vemo – is now owned by guess who? Google. Does this space allow fair competition? Doesn’t look like it – does it? Every time Google stock-owners go to the bank they say “GOO_GOO_GA_GA” when they see how much money – on paper – they are making. Remember – money either enhances or corrupts.)

In This Installment:

Beach House – “Sunset” from Once Twice Melody (Feb. 18th)
PUP – “Robot Writes a Love Song” from The Unraveling of Pup, The Band (April 1st)
MJ Lenderman “The Hangover Game” from Boat Songs (April 29th)
Baby Strange – “Under The Surface” from Land of Nothing (April 20th)
Hater – “Something New” from Sincere (May 5th)

It’s no secret to our readers/followers that we have been big Beach House supporters from the get-go (more than 15 years by now – wow) after listening to the duo’s 2006 self-title debut album, featuring still-amazing tracks like the mega-loved “Master of None” to “Saltwater”, and others like the spooky “Tokyo Witch”, over and over again.

Now we are fortunate to have a track and video from the duo’s upcoming new release Once Twice Melody set to drop February 18th via Sub Pop Records.

Victoria Legrand‘s soothy, mysterious vocals and Alex Scally‘s dreamy, moody instrumentations on “Sunset” and many other tracks have never run dry or become ho-hum over the years.

Being overly analytical in cases like this can be a big fault: so, at the end of the day, all we can say about Beach House is they’re on our forever favorite indie duos of all time list.

Toronto punk quartet PUP are set to drop their foruth album, The Unraveling of Pup, The Band on April 1st via Little Dipper/Rise Records.

The video/audio track “Robot Writes A Love Song” shifts from melodic guitar-rock into an anthemic synth and drum machine-driven groove.

The band’s statement hints at something different coming up: “[It is] not just the next PUP record, but the most PUP record.”

PUP members recorded and mixed the tracks last summer at Grammy-winning producer Peter Katis’ (Interpol, Kurt Vile, The National) Connecticut mansion.

New instruments like piano, synths and horns are used for the first time on a PUP album and includes contributions remotely from the following artists: Sarah Tudzin (Illuminati Hotties), Kathryn McCauhey (NOBRO), Mel St-Pierre (Casper Skulls) and Erik Paulson (Remo Drive).

Asheville, North Carolina ndie rocker and former Wednesday band member Jake Lenderman, who records as MJ Lenderman, returns with a new track about Game 5 of the 1997 NBA Finals. The song, “Hangover Game,” is off of his forthcoming album Boat Songs.

With combating guitars and a remarkable cresecendo, the track unravels a story that Michael Jordan’s infamous 1997 illness was not food poisoning, but instead a ‘bad hangover.’

Lenderman turns the song into a silly two minutes of poetic alt-country bliss. Boat Songs drops official April 29th via Dear Life Records.

Scottish rockers Baby Strange released their new video single “Under The Surface”.

The video is wonderfully creative and memorable – an accomplishment these days, especially on what we assume was a limited budget. Overall it’s a clever artistic concept that doesn’t need to be flashy or elaborate to be effective. Of course it helps that the song itself is a kick-ass rocker.

Another single, “Midnight,” released on New Years Eve – was the first teaser from the band’s upcoming second album, Land of Nothing, due April 20th via Icons Creating Evil Art.

It’s a powerful song for me, writing it was a total release”

Vocalist and guitarist Johnny Madden explains: “’Under The Surface’ is a song about feeling trapped and wanting to find a way out of whatever is holding you back. It’s about paranoia, dark thoughts and the need to get over them. It’s a powerful song for me, writing it was a total release and when we finished it in the studio I felt a weight was lifted from my shoulders.”

Frontview Magazine : “There is an underlying rawness to the energy sewn deep into the fabric of Glasgow that Baby Strange have harnessed with an unrelenting force.”

Swedish band Hater has dropped the first single, “Something” from their new album Sincere.

It’s the indie quartet’s follow-up to 2018’s Siesta, “Something” is a hypnotizing mix of shoegaze guitars, Caroline Landahl‘s wonderfully diverse vocals and soft, offset drum beats.

This newest peek-view at the upcoming release of Sincere on May 6th via Fire Records.

Top 2022 Indie Music Videos, Vol. I – The Kooks, Band of Horses, The Smile, Big Thief & AC

With the new year off to a roaring start in the way of popular new indie rock releases, songs and Already this year, there’s been a steady and growing flow of new music video single releases from indie rock artists and bands.

In This Installment (Vol. II and III in next few days):

The Kooks – “Connection” from 10 Tracks To Echo in the Dark (July 22nd)
Band of Horses – “Crutch” from Things Are Great (March 4th?)
The Smile – “The Smoke” (single)
Big Thief – “Simulation Swarm” from Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You (Feb. 7th)
Animal Collective – “Strung with Everything.” from Time Skiffs (Feb. 1st)

British indie-pop trailblazers The Kooks released the first of three EPs this week to accompany the announcement of the band’s sixth studio ablum – 10 Tracks To Echo in the Dark, set to drop July 22nd in its entirety via Lonely Cat/AWAL Recordings.

Following a trend lately in how new albums are released, the first two parts of The Kooks’ new material each consist of a three-track EP, while the final EP will unveil another four tracks from the LP.

The first EP, titled Connection: Echo in the Dark, Part One, offers the following new tracks: “Connection”, “Jesse James” and “Modern Days”. The video for “Connection” is the first music video to promote the new album. It will be the band’s first album since 2018’s widely-praised Let’s Go Sunshine.

Nearly a decade since the height of their success, Band of Horses has returned with a hit song, “Crutch,” marking the band’s first entry ever into the Billboard Adult Alternative Chart.

The accompanying music video is a bit freaky but it’s great if you love cats. If you don’t love cats, and freaky combined, probably best to let your eyes do the reviewing here.

The release date for the band’s first album in a decade – Things Are Great – was moved by BMG from January 28

Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood, and Sons Of Kemet’s Tom Skinner have returned with another single as The Smile.

The new ghostly, reverb-soaked single, “The Smoke,” is accompanied by the lyric video above and directed by BAFTA-winning writer/director Mark Jenkin.

This marks the supergroup’s second official single. In January, The Smile dropped their debut track, “You Will Never Work In Television Again,” praised by critics and fans alike.

The marathon of advanced singles from Big Thief‘s new double-album, Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You. So far, the band has dropped seven singles and today, “Simulation Swarm” becomes No. 8.

The eighth single from Big Thief’s would seem like overkill if it wasn’t so transfixing. The song has long been a favorite at live shows but was never officially released as a single until now.

The track is a “positively hypnotic tangle of acoustic guitar and bass, with James Krivchenia’s percussion doing just enough to reinforce its insistent groove,” writes Paste contributor Scott Russell.

A verse-heavy arrangement gives Adrianne Lenker plenty of room to unspool evocative lyrics like, “Once again, we must bleed new / Even as the hours shake / Crystal blood like a dream true / A ripple in the wound and wake.”

Friday marks the release of the first new Animal Collective album in a decade. The album, Time Skiffs, features 11 new tracks, including the nearly seven-minute track, “Strung with Everything.”

The colorful, artistic video that accompanies the song was directed by Abby Portner, sister of David Portner (aka Avey Tare) using a cut-out animatation technique with a raindrop-speckled pond and for contrast in different sequences – a wizard battling a dragon.

Its abundant flow of colors and symbols is interrupted only by the occasional lyric throughout the track’s melodic sprawl: “Let’s say tonight you and me / We’ll watch the sky fall into pieces […] And even though all hearts are strange / We’re all Strung with Everything.”

Shinedown drop title track for upcoming album ‘Planet Zero’

One of Jacksonville‘s (Florida) most popular rock bands, Shinedown have shared a dope new lyric video for the title track – “Planet Zero” – from the forthcoming album.

Planet Zero is set to drop April 22nd on Atlantic.

Frontman Brent Smith says: “If we shut each other down and allow ourselves to be divided by the information we consume and the way we talk to each other, we lose our humanity.

“When you look outside of your phone, you’ll see there are so many people doing good things and trying to take care of each other. But we’re starting to see parts of society slip into an unknown…the fact is that we’re all here on this planet no matter what, so it’s time to actually move forward together with empathy, perseverance and strength.”

From YouTube comments:

Fish Stick101

I’m getting such Heroes/Cut The Chord vibes from this, it’s great to hear some heavy release from them reminiscent of their old work with a perfect twist. My eyes shot wide when I heard this song, they always impress! I love it!

Fontaines DC target ‘skinty fia’ meaning

Dublin indie rockers Fontaines DC just announced a new album Skinty Fia for release this spring. The first new single from the band’s forthcoming third album is the driving first single “Jackie Down The Line”.

There’s confusion about the title of the album swirling around. Basically ‘skinty fia’ is an expletive, but historically it’s an Irish phrase that translates to ‘the damnation of the deer.’ Over time, the original meaning has been Anglicized and diluted.

The band have also announced a North American tour for this spring along with fellow Irish band Just Mustard.

Fontaines DC is one of the hottest Irish indie rock bands of the past half decade. The band members are Grian Chatten, Carlos O’Connell, Conor Curley, Conor Deegan III, and Tom Coll.

Silverbacks start ’22 wih latest single from Archive Material

Irish indie band Silverbacks kick off 2022 with the fourth single, “A Job Worth Something”, from the Archive Material album due out later this month.

“A Job Worth Something” is latest single drop and their first new material of the year. The previous three singles dropped include “Rolodex City”, “Archive Material” and “Wear My Medals”.

“For most of the pandemic I lived with my sister who is a healthcare worker and was working in the designated Covid hospital in St James’ Dublin,” says frontman Daniel O’Kelly. “Unfortunately, I was far less heroic, writing copy for a car insurance company.”

“This song is about feeling embarrassed about how different our lives were at this time,” O’Kelly adds. “When it comes to telling my grandchildren what all this was like, I’ll be telling them about my sisters who have more important stories to share.”

Archive Material drops officially on January 21 .

Pavement drops ‘new’ single from massive Terror Twilight re-issue

As one of the clear purveyors of the indie/alt rock sound slack rockers Pavement will drop a deluxe reissue of Terror Twilight in February with three previously unreleased songs. Here is one of them: “Be The Hook”. Thoughts?

Matador Records will release the reissue on April 8th. According to the label, the reissue will reincarnate producer Nigel Goodrich‘s (Beck, Radiohead) original track listing suggestion along with Pavement’s final track order.

The four LP/2-CD editions will also include a book featuring previously unreleased photos and notes. Obviously, a must-have for die-hard Pavement fans.

The reissue includes a stunning 45 tracks and a remastering of the original album, as well as B-sides, rehearsal tapes, live recordings, home demos, rehearsal tapes, live recordings and sessions – such as recordings from a scrapped session at Sonic Youth’s Echo Canyon studio. In all, the compilation offers 28 unreleased tracks, including “Be The Hook.”

The LP will restore Terror‘s producer Nigel Goodrich (Radiohead, Beck) suggested sequence, yet the new CD will preserve the final track order lined up by Pavement.

U.K. indie trailblazers Spiritutalized drop second single

Ahead of the release of their forthcoming new album, long-time English space rockers Spiritualized unveiled a video for the fresh single, “Crazy.”

The single follows the release of the first single, and opener, “Always Together With You” from the upcoming album release, Everything Was Beautiful, set to drop February 25 on Fat Possum.

For 30 years, Spiritualized, easily one of the U.K.’s first popular ‘indie’ bands, has remained innovative and relevant. The new country-soul single features backing vocals from Nikki Lane. Directing the video – and inspired by Andy Warhol’s 60’s silent film, Kiss – frontman Jason Pierce, a.k.a., J Spaceman.

Speaking of ‘crazy’, the album was recorded in 11 different studios over a couple of years. Pierce plays 16 different instruments on the album with help from some 30 invited musicians, including choirs, chimes, brass and string section and finger bells.

“I felt like I’d been in training for this my whole life,” Pierce said in a statement. “There was so much information on it that the slightest move would unbalance it, but going around in circles is important to me.

“Not like you’re spiraling out of control but you’re going around and around and on each revolution you hold onto the good each time. Sure, you get mistakes as well, but you hold on to some of those too and that’s how you kind of… achieve. Well, you get there.”

Holodrum drops debut single “Free Advice”

Shimmering with disco-like electro-pop, U.K. supergroup Holodrum has drop the debut single, “Free Advice”. The track is layered and complex and atmospheric.

“When it comes to doing music, most bands fall between two extremes of doing it for some goal or as an end to itself,” says guitarist/vocalist Sam Shjipstone. “I think Holodrum is about the joy and complexity of living, and I just hope to god everyone gets to have a good time doing it.”

“[Free Advice] expresses the state of feeling invincible in the face of adversity,” says lead vocalist Emily Garner, “and acts quite explicitly as a piece of good advice, applicable to anyone that’s gone out of their way just to harsh your vibe.”

The accompanying video is steep deep in technicolour with 8-bit animation. “[It] mostly includes things we miss and love about being in a band. Namely jamming, travelling, seeing stuff and enjoying the local delicacies. Iced in a candy-core palette, the video art is a motion collage of 2D, 2.5D and isometric 3D graphics.” shares the group.

“Free Advice” is out now and the debut album drops February 25.
