DeVotchka, Los Campesinos, Bishop Allen, Junior League, The Speaks and Others Play DC’s U Street Concerts This Weekend

DeVotchka performed tonight at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC

The U Street Weekend Concert series in Washington, DC kicked off tonight with performances from artists Devotchka and Los Campesinos. Bands and artists including Junior League, The Speaks, Alice Smith, Bishop Allen and Yo Majesty will also perform this weekend at various venues in the nation’s capital.

DeVotchka, a four-piece multi-instrumental band blending rock with eastern European influences, performed for a packed crowd at Washington, DC’s legendary 9:30 Club. The opening act was Basia Bulat.

Los Campesinos!, the Welsh seven-piece indie pop-rock band, played the Black Cat with the Aquarium and Pash tonight to a pumped up crowd.

DC’s own rock quintet, The Speaks, who are big in Asia, will perform at the 9:30 Club on Saturday night with opening artists Monako and Dreaming of Eden. The show starts at 6 pm and tickets are $12.

Bluegrass and country folk artist Junior League will play the Black Cat starting at 9 pm. Tickets are $10.

R&B, soul and jazz singer Alice Smith, a local DC artists, will sound-off with her powerful voice and back-up band Sunday night starting at 7:30 with opening act Res. Tickets are $18.

One of Brooklyn’s favorite indie bands, Bishop Allen, will perform at the Black Cat with the War on Drugs and Deleted Scenes. Tickets are a deal at $12. Doors open at 8 pm.

This is the band’s last U.S. performance before launching their spring European tour on May 23 in Gothenburg.

Lastly, the all female electro-rap jam band Yo Majesty will take the stage Sunday night at DC9. Opening band Innerpartysystem will open the show at 9 pm. Tickets are $12 a pop.
