Happy Belated Birthday to The Legendary Bob Dylan

This post is simply to wish Bob Dylan a belated happy birthday. On May 24, Dylan turned 68 years old. Dylan is one of my personal all-time favorite musicians ever since I was a kid and easily one of the best poets of the 20th century. Few artists have the worldwide recognition and acclaim that Dylan enjoys.

The featured video above is one of the most famous music videos of all time, not to mention one of Dylan’s best electric songs, “Subterrian Homesick Blues”. Sounds odd in some ways to say so, but SHB is arguably one of the earliest forms of what would decades later be called ‘rap’ music. The song and the accompanying video will persist in music history through the ages.

Dylan’s complete discography is easily one of the best compilations of music in American history and will continue to influence and inspire talented musicians for eternity.

Celebrate Record Store Day – Go Out and Buy Music

record store day 2009

One of the things that I am really committed to is supporting the artists and bands whose music I enjoy, and advocating for others to do the same. Whether it’s something as simple as adding a band you enjoy to your social network of choice or going to shows and buying their albums, you are, in essence, each time voting and thereby taking part in a larger movement that is now instant, global and powerful in large part because of the Internet.

But there is one thing I hope will never change. The record store, or as I prefer to say, the record shop, especially the locally owned establishments. There has always been something special about going to a record shop, browsing the collections, hearing new music, finding out what others are digging, meeting people and building up the CD collection.

All this and more is why supporting your local record shop is so important. Everyone knows record shops have been hit hard in the past decade by record store chains (we all know their names) and the ability to purchase music online. Still, it’s nice to see so many music lovers of all ages and tastes promoting and supporting their local record shops on this special day.

A Note to IRC Subscribers and Visitors

Dear Subscribers and Visitors:

You may notice that we are continuing to work on creating a faster, more appealing, more versatile and more content-rich site for fans of that thing they call ‘indie rock’.

Please let us know if you are experiencing any problems with the site, or if you have any comments, suggestions, criticisms or compliments. Believe it or not, we’re more interested in the ‘constructive criticism’ of the site to help make it better for everyone.

In the coming months, there are going to be some big surprises in store as far as upgrading IndieRockCafe.com, including more listings and searches of artists, songs, reviews, concerts, plus added social networks, more legal and free MP3s, music videos, streaming media, new and upcoming releases, plus the latest news and views from the indie music community at large, including special features with ‘established’ and ‘up-and-coming’ independent musicians and groups.

Thanks and please send your feedback

IRC’s Getting A Total Makeover

Hey Everyone:

You may have already noticed that Indie Rock Cafe is getting a total redesign. Hopefully, you like it more than the old design; if you haven’t seen it yet, check out and let me know.

Advancements will also include more information and access to the newest releases, indie and alt rock news, venue and cafe locations, concert and festival listings, and more MP3s, streams, podcasts and music videos from the greatest and latest independent (with some mainstream sprinkled about) and alternative rock artists and groups.

Check out the new site design and content (still on-going but mostly all is good).

Trailer Park Fashion Show

I’ve travelled by land across the continential United States at least five times now and have passed many trailer-park communities along the way. Sometimes in life, stereotypes have a tinge of truth in them, huh?

But this next video takes it to a new level by featuring two amateur actors (who do a fairly good job ‘acting’) participating in their own little twisted Trailer Park Fashion Show. It’s not as trashy as you would expect a home-made video to be, but it’s enjoyable nonetheless.
