Best New Music Releases, Week of Sept. 4th – Animal Collective, Cat Power, Stars, Two Door Cinema Club, Deerhoof, Jens Lekman

animal-collective-centipedehz Whether you love them or hate them, or somewhere in the middle, there’s been a lot of buzz in the past couple of weeks around the release of the new studio album, Centipede Hz, from Animal Collective. The album is apparently an effort to emulate the sound of radio, and in true Animal Collective fashion, with a TV-style interface, which you can listen to, and watch, on My Animal Home Radio, via the recent Fresh Tracks mix, which also features another track, “New Burnout Town.” Here’s the official Animal Collective video for “Today’s Supernatural.”

Centipede Hz is oozing with layers of busy, psychedelic synth pop, sound effects, and plenty of AC’s iconic vocal and chorus arrangements. The track below, “Moonjock,” starts off with a trashing sound that evolves into a swirling cacophony of vocals, ardent drumbeats, crashing cymbals, bird calls, distorted synth keys and mini-jams. There’s so much going on in this song that you might feel like your head is going to explode.
